The debate about mother tongue education is highly relevant in Sweden at the moment, as there is currently a government investigation by the right-wing populist party ‘Sweden Democrats’ questioning the provision of mother tongue education in Swedish municipalities. Our partners from Uppsala, together with other HLE centres in various municipalities, have written a debate article in Sweden's largest daily newspaper "Svenska Dagbladet" (6th December 2024) in which they point out the many benefits of the offer for the development of multilingual children.
