Bill Odidi
Journalist
Bill Odidi is a Kenyan journalist based in Nairobi with more than 20 years’ experience in radio and television, printed and online media. He is currently Controller of Radio Programmes (Creative Division) at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) in Nairobi, and writes on cultural trends for leading Kenyan publications such as the Business Daily and the Daily Nation. He also reports on African music for the programme Music Time in Africa on the Voice of America (VOA). Previously he presented the arts magazine show Bonjour Culture for Radio France International (R.F.I) from 2009 – 2011.
Odidi has been a researcher and co-author on various projects to document the history of Kenyan popular music. These include Retracing the Benga Rhythm, Retracing Kenya’s Funky Hits of the 70s, Retracing Kenya’s Songs of Social and Political Protest. and Shades of Benga: The Story of Popular Music in Kenya, which have all been published by Ketebul Music. Bill served as a board member of the Music in Africa Foundation from 2013 to 2015.
