Andreas Weber

Biologist and Philosopher

Andreas Weber studied biology with a major in marine ecology, as well as philosophy, in Berlin, Hamburg and Freiburg. His dissertation is entitled Natur als Bedeutung. Versuch einer semiotischen Theorie des Lebendigen (Nature as Meaning. Attempt at a semiotic theory of the living). Weber has written for a variety of German media as a freelance journalist and is currently working as an author and university lecturer at Berlin University of the Arts. His works include Alles fühlt. Mensch, Natur und die Revolution der Lebenswissenschaften (The Biology of Wonder. Aliveness, Feeling and the Metamorphosis of Science; 2007), Lebendigkeit. Eine erotische Ökologie (Matter and Desire: An Erotic Ecology; 2014) and Indigenialität (Indigeneity; 2018). In his literary non-fiction works, Weber advocates breaking down the mechanical interpretation of life phenomena. He has received several awards for his journalistic and philosophical works.
