Support occasional community events on weekends and evenings for up to 180 people with the following tasks:
OPENING and CLOSING THE BUILDING, EVENT SETUP:
- Set up a refreshment stand and use an urn for hot water (it’s best to do this early as it takes a while for the water to heat up).
- Glasses are kept in the upstairs kitchen.
- Discuss with event organisers to discern how they would like the rooms set up.
- Event organisers will usually use the upstairs kitchen to prepare snacks and drinks – you may have to assist in carrying a few bits and pieces upstairs.
- Make sure you are as available as possible for the event organisers and have made previous arrangements to organize what needs to be set up and accommodate any special needs.
- There is a comprehensive guide to the Saal’s technology in the small room with the light switches.
- Turn on Kenwood and Sony units, the mixer and the Livingstone unit.
- Projector: Use remote to turn projector on and select source; computer (via HDMI cable on the stage), video (via the DVD player); etc. The switch to move the screen up and down is located above the light switches.
- DVD and CD: select button (1) marked ‘DVD’ on the Digitech unit, turn DVD player on and ensure the projector is in video mode.
- Mics: podium mic will turn on automatically. Roaming mics must be switched on. Mic and speaker volume can be managed on the mixer. Each channel is clearly marked.
- Piano: if used ensure it is safely packed away.
- Door to the deck opens with two locks on the door frame.
- If it is a sunny day the blinds can be pulled down to keep the room cool and block out light. Do this by turning the pulley on the right side of each blind.
- If it is a rainy day make sure the door is closed as water floods in.
- Often event organisers will need accessible parking. Open the car park gate by pressing the small red button in the box on the wall next to the gate.
- It is preferable for people to park in the car park rather than in the driveway at the front of the building to ensure the area is kept clear for pedestrians and visitors.
- Return the Saal to its original state in preparation for classes.
- Clean away used glasses and plates as you go and have both rooms clean before you leave.
- Always make sure all lights are switched off, all doors are closed and all windows are closed.
- Lock both front doors.
