Pina Bausch’s legendary Tanztheater Wuppertal returns to Adelaide Festival! Club Amour unites the work of Pina Bausch, “high priestess of dance” (The Guardian), and Boris Charmatz, a trailblazer of French contemporary dance and the current artistic director of Tanztheater Wuppertal, for a triptych of groundbreaking works dedicated to love and desire.

Café Müller by Pina Bausch is one of the most influential dance pieces of the 20th century. Combining the brilliance of the legendary German choreographer with the beauty of Henry Purcell’s greatest arias, the masterpiece has its Australian premiere.

For Club Amour, the Pina Bausch piece Café Müller is paired with two works from Boris Charmatz’s repertoire: Aatt enen tionon is a radical choreographic work from 1996, and herses, duo has two dancers tangled closely together, their bodies never leaving one another. Audience members will be invited to sit or stand on the stage, taking in the performances from a vantage point of their choosing
