Call for Applications: Financial Support for Western Balkan Public Service Broadcasters -Innovation projects grants

The Innovation. Media. Minds.: Support to Public Service Journalism in the Western Balkans Program opens a call for financial support of the Western Balkan public service media participating in in the Innovation. Media. Minds Program

The grants scheme particularly seeks to:
  • improve PSMs' internal governance and organisational performance;
  • elevate the level of quality and applicability of the content created;
  • increase audience participation and engagement;
  • support PSM editors and journalists in the Western Balkans in advancing their professional abilities and gaining insight, expertise and knowledge about contemporary EU journalism standards and practices.
The call for Innovation project grants of PSMs is open exclusively for the following: public service media with a legal body established in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, that have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Goethe-Institut and the DW Akademie, and participated in the in-house needs assessment.

A total budget of EUR 420,000 will be distributed in two calls for proposals. The highest grant amount that can be awarded is EUR 60,000. In the first call, four (4) grants will be awarded. Until the end of the Programme, the Western Balkan PSMs will have an additional opportunity to apply for grants within the second call for proposals.

Applicants can apply for Innovation project grants, with project implementation lasting a maximum of twelve (12) months.

This call is open until July 8, 2024, 23:59 CET. Applicants must submit their project ideas via Goethe Application Portal (GAP).

Funded by the European Union, the Innovation. Media. Minds.: Support to Public Service Journalism in the Western Balkans Program, is managed by the Goethe-Institut on behalf of the European Commission and in collaboration with its implementing partner DW Akademie.

Focusing on public service broadcasters, the Program aims to enhance content and engage audiences. Implemented from 2023 to 2026, Program’s estimated results include improved management skills, internal structures, workflows of PSMs, enhanced programming and public interest content. Media professionals are expected to improve their skills and innovation techniques, while special focus is given to young journalists, multipliers and trainers, quality journalism and audience involvement. The Program also aims to enhance engagement, expand cooperation and networking capacity of public service media (PSM).
