My first impression of Bangladesh…

Very, very positive, because of the inspiring and collaborative encounters with the artists I got to know here.

Things in Dhaka that remind me of my hometown Berlin…
Nothing at all. But when I found garment labels and 99 euro price tags in the trash behind the Garmin Company building, it soon became apparent what Bangladesh has to do with the global North.

One thing I’ve noticed in Bangladesh (that’s not so typical in Germany)…
Extreme impartiality in the conversations and discussions with artists from Dhaka when we introduced each other to our respective works.

An enduring memory of Bangladesh…
How queer performance artists incorporate their grief over a person who is very close to them into their work. The particular individual was brutally murdered because of her sexual identities.
