The Institut Pierre Werner (IPW) is a European institution that promotes cultural and intellectual dialogue between its three founding countries, Germany, France and Luxembourg. In this way, the IPW aims to contribute to the development of a European citizenship in the spirit of the tradition of the European Enlightenment and the experiences of the post-war period of the 20th century.
A GERMAN-FRENCH-LUXEMBOURGISH INITIATIVE
The IPW was founded in 2003 on the initiative of the German, French and Luxembourg governments as a non-profit association under Luxembourg law. The sponsorship of the house is guaranteed by the Goethe-Institut, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture. The decision to locate the seat of the Institute in Luxembourg underlines the character of the IPW as a European institution in which the cooperation of large countries from the perspective of a smaller one becomes a mutually enriching perspective.
