The Door
This art installation was created in the workshop of the woodworker Berul in Stolipinovo.
Many woodworkers, ironworkers and builders, tailors and hairdressers, who are unknown in Plovdiv, live and work in the neighbourhood. With this door we want to reveal some of this unknown potential.
The installation is inspired by an old wooden door. With the help of Berul the woodworker and various participants, we restored it during four architectural workshops in Stolipinovo. We cleaned the door and created a new frame that we decorated with turned elements. We also added two mailboxes that we built from two old cabinets. Finally, we "dipped" half of the door in bright colour. Thus, at first glance, an old and useless thing has turned into something new and beautiful.
In the making of the door took part Ivan, Georgi, Miroslav, Dessislava, Genika, Donika, Valentin, Lenko, Angel, Ali, Zhivka, Petya, Yavor, Kami, Freya, Gunda, Vanya, Emily, Tsvetomir, Andrea, Plamena, Krassimir, Svetozar and Veronika under the expert guidance of Berul.
The door provokes with its presence in a narrow street in the centre of Plovdiv. It is surreal and unusual and challenges us to ask questions but also to seek answers.
You can see the installation in Kapana in the centre of Plovdiv until 5 October 2019. Discover the details made on the lathe, peek through the spyhole and look for surprises!
