Supervised transfer from Düsseldorf airport For flights landing or departing between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the official arrival and departure day, a transfer between Düsseldorf (DUS) and the course location in Köln is available (waiting times possible). One of our employees will be waiting at the transit area exit in the arrivals hall to greet the children when they arrive. He/she will be carrying a Goethe-Institut sign and will have identification. For organisational reasons, we cannot tell you the name of the employee until three days before the start of the course, at the earliest. On the departure day, we will accompany your child as far as the airport check-in.

Learn German with a Rhine River view

The Goethe-Institut’s language camp in Cologne is located in the Rheinauen, a vast park along the Rhine. Many of the three- to four-bed rooms, where our participants live together for three weeks, have windows overlooking the legendary river.

Three meals a day, as well as refreshments and snacks, are provided, with vegetarian and pork-free options available at each meal. Participants in the youth German course learn German daily in two to three teaching blocks. We practice reading, comprehension, writing, and speaking with instructional materials as well as through language games and excursions. Twenty-four hours of instruction (45 minutes each) per week quickly lead to significant progress.

Day trips include exploring the beautiful Rhine Valley, visiting the city of Bonn to the south of Cologne, and experiencing the fashion and media city of Düsseldorf.

Experience Cologne, travel the Rhine Valley

Cologne, Germany's fourth-largest city, is famous for its giant Gothic cathedral and a long history that began around 50 A.D. with the Romans. At the Romano-Germanic Museum right next to the cathedral, young people can learn about this period, and remnants of the Roman city gate still stand in the cathedral square.

But Cologne is also filled with sights from all centuries, especially the many ancient Romanesque churches from the Frankish period, which are considered unique. Yet it’s the cathedral that dominates the cityscape and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Cologne is anything but boring: attractions include the Chocolate Museum, the interactive natural history museum Odysseum, and the Ludwig Museum.

On an excursion to Bonn, the former capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, we can visit the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven and the House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Rhine Valley between Cologne and Mainz is considered the most romantic landscape in all of Germany; many poets and painters of the 19th century dedicated works to the Rhine, including Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
