In 2022, the project “Media and Science in the MENA Region” conducted three workshops on the basics of science journalism and the application of multimedia in science journalism. Two workshops were held in the classroom in Cairo and Beirut, and the third online. This year, the workshops brought together print and multimedia journalists from all over the MENA region: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauretania, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen.
In the workshops, the journalists were trained on research approaches and fact-checking, as well as narrative techniques, ideation, and the application of multimedia. In the follow-up, participants were asked to write a report on everything they had learned during the workshop. A number of participants, selected by an independent jury, later took part in a one-to-one mentoring programme.
