Tonight, the Goethe-Institut in Addis Abeba showcases the German film "Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush" starting 6 pm in the evening as part of its contribution to the
17th Addis International Film Festival. "Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush" is an award-winning German drama film inspired by true events. Director Andreas Dresen tells the story of Guantanamo detainee Murat Kurnaz and his mother, Rabiye Kurnaz, as she fights for her son's freedom after Murat is accused of terrorism shortly after the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks in New York. For the resolute German-Turkish woman, a journey into the heart of world politics begins. Together with human rights lawyer Bernhard Docke, she fights all the way to the Supreme Court in Washington DC. and in the end, against all odds, something truly remarkable happens.
