(born: 04.04.1922 in Berlin, died: 16.9.1998 in Berlin), Philosophical Historian

Marie Jalowicz Simon was the daughter of a Jewish lawyer who had to go into hiding alone to survive the Nazi regime. After Germany’s liberation, Marie Jalowicz stayed in Berlin, married the scientist Heinrich Simon and later became a Professor of Philology. Shortly before her death, her son, Hermann Simon, recorded her detailed account of her time in hiding during WW2. The resulting book Underground in Berlin: A Young Woman's Extraordinary Tale of Survival in the Heart of Nazi Germany, which was created from the tapes, appeared posthumously in 2014.
