International Online Book Club - Meet the Author
'Marzahn, mon amour' by Katja Oskamp
For the sixth meeting of our international online book club, we have invited the author Katja Oskamp to read and discuss her novel Marzahn, mon amour with us.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Katja Oskamp is in her mid-forties when life becomes stagnant. Her child has left home, her husband is ill and she can’t make ends meet as a writer. So she decides to make a go of it as a chiropodist in Marzahn, the largest area of 'Plattenbauten' (prefabricated buildings) in the GDR. A job that could be seen as failure by many but the people who live and work there know all about hardship. And it is the people and their individual stories shared with her that Oskamp pays homage to in her book. She vividly, sensitively and humorously describes her clients with the respect and dignity she shows them during the treatment of their soles.ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
