Premiere in Tbilisi, September 2022
The Georgian/Abkhaz fairy tale Natsarkekia/Tachkum is the basis of a marionette theatre, developed by Sipa Labakhua (Sokhum/i) and Levan Varazi (Tbilisi). The theatre premiered in Tbilisi in September 2022 at the Goethe-Institut, followed by a discussion with the two artists.
“The history of Tachkum-Natsarkekia is an example of natural interweaving of Georgian-Abkhaz folklore, which has the same foundation. Therefore, our common fairy tale is one of the many evidences of the unnaturalness of interethnic problems.” – Levan Varazi
“To say that we are not interested in politics would be misleading. Politics has a direct impact on our lives and our joint work. Therefore, we decided to make our modest contribution to the ending of this "thirty Years' War", which seems to have wandered from the distant past into the 21st century. And the fact, that we chose a fairytale genre for our project is not because we decided to forget the reality and go into the world of abstractions, but exactly the opposite: we just tried to find a universal language that generalizes this reality.”- Sipa Labakhua
