Final Event: Common Waste – Common Libraries

Four teams – four completely different and innovative approaches to tackle the waste problem in Southeast Europe.

After intensive project weeks, we cordially invite you to the final presentation of the exciting and innovative project ideas of the four selected teams within the Goethe program “Common Waste – Common Libraries”.

In the event the four teams will present their project ideas. In addition you can expect an workshop on the topic of zero waste in everyday life. How can we live more sustainably and avoid unnecessary consumption? What can we do as individuals and what can we do as communities? We will share some tips and tricks and try to rethink (and possibly overthink) our consumption habits. The speaker Ana-Marija Mileusnić works for the Croatian NGO “Zelena akcij” as a campaigner against plastic pollution.

About “Common Waste – Common Libraries”

In times of thousands of tonnes of waste in the Mediterranean and hardly developed infrastructure for recycling processes in South-East Europe, we would like to expand knowledge about waste prevention, recycling and circular economy and to network young initiators with each other.

After the selection of participants the project started with a three-day Ideathon training in Zagreb in June. We have gathered 17 participants from seven countries in Southeast Europe and different professional backgrounds.

The final outcome of the Ideathon were four teams with the following ideas:

Book it – an complex and innovative idea that praises circularity with the reusing of paper to produce mushrooms that will end up like a possible construction material to implement in libraries

Sustainable neighbors – survey on the state of the art in the libraries and educational program on sustainability for the librarians

Change the Script – using the theatre performance and reuse of paper in the pursuit of falling in love with the books

Co-Lib – supporting educational toolkit for librarians
