Winfried, a music teacher, surprises his career-focused daughter Ines in Bucharest after his dog dies. Ines, a corporate strategist, is busy with a major project and doesn't appreciate Winfried's corny pranks and critiques of her lifestyle. They reach an impasse, and Winfried agrees to leave. However, he returns as "Toni Erdmann," his bold alter ego, claiming to be Ines' CEO's life coach. In his tacky suit and fake teeth, Toni disrupts Ines' professional life. Despite the chaos, Ines begins to understand and appreciate her eccentric father, realizing he might deserve a place in her life after all.
