What are the technical requirements for online classes?

For an optimal learning experience, you need a Windows or Mac desktop computer or laptop. We do not recommend tablets, iPads, smartphones or other mobile equipment for this course, although it is possible to use them. You need a headset with microphone. If you use the built-in speakers and microphone on your laptop, it might cause an echo for the other participants in the online classrooms.

What is the difference to a classroom course at the Goethe-Institut?

With online live lessons, you can conveniently decide from wherever you want to take part in the lessons. Apart from that, you have all the advantages of the Goethe-Institut's face-to-face courses. After successfully completing the course, you can easily switch between online and face-to-face lessons.

Do I have to activate the camera and microphone during the online course?

Yes, the camera and microphone must be switched on during the entire digital lesson so that the teacher can ensure participation at all times. The microphone can only be muted by the teacher. If you wish to protect your privacy in your current environment, the private background can be pixelated or a digital background can be selected.

Will the online course be recorded?

No, our online live course is not recorded and the course participants are not allowed to record or photograph the lessons.

Would you like to learn German from anywhere or focus on improving your German language skills? With our professional German courses Online Live, you will be taught by a highly qualified Goethe teacher and have the opportunity to take a Goethe-Zertifikat, one of our globally recognised language exams, at the end of your course.

These courses are taught in a very similar way to our face-to-face courses, but via live video conferencing.

Via ZOOM, you meet with the teacher and other participants in a digital classroom and use the same textbook as in the face-to-face lessons. The lessons are interactive and lively. You have many opportunities to try out what you have learnt in smaller, virtual group rooms.
