At the beginning of the new year 2019, the Goethe-Institut and the German Alumni Association Hong Kong are launching a new event series – the German-Hong Kong Alumni Talk. Four times a year we will invite Hong Kong alumni, i.e. former scholarship holders from the German Academic Exchange Services DAAD, the Goethe-Institut, or other German foundations or funding institutions and German learners as well as general public who are interested in Germany, to an expert discussion on current social-political, economic, cultural or education topics at the Goethe-Library. For each discussion there will be a Hong Kong-based German expert and a German-speaking Hong-Konger.
The first expert discussion, titled “Career with German”, will take place on 5th March from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM with support from the German Chambers of Commerce in Hong Kong. Wolfgang Ehmann, Executive Director of the German Industry and Commerce Ltd., will give an overview on the current situation of the Hong Kong job market and the local presence of large companies from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Together with another guest, Kaikang LE, Managing Director of Beurer Far East Ltd., they will discuss career chances in Hong Kong at German/Austrian/Swiss companies for graduates as well as at job opportunities in Germany. Other relevant topics will also be addressed, such as what additional qualifications could boost a career and what difficulties Hong Kongers face when searching for jobs in Germany.
Our moderator is Timothy Wong, a graduate of the University of Hong Kong (HKU)'s German Program and is now working in the German Consulate General Hong Kong, responsible for the press and cultural affairs.
There will be a Q&A session at the end of the talk. German food and beverages will also be provided.

Kaikang LE
Since 2006 Kaikang Le has served as Managing Director in Beurer Far East Co. Ltd which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Germany’s Beurer Company in Hong Kong. Beurer has been manufacturing electrical appliances for health and wellness for a century and is the leading company of its field for 95 years. After graduating from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies with a bachelor’s degree in German, he served as a buyer in Linde Xiamen Forklift Co., Ltd for 4 years. In 2000, Mr. Le began studying a master’s degree in International marketing in the University of Applied Technology, Reutlingen. He returned to China in 2003 and served as a purchasing manager in Hartmann (Shanghai) Trading Co., Ltd before he entered the management of Beurer in Hong Kong 13 years ago.

Wolfgang Ehmann
Wolfgang Ehmann is the Executive Director of the German Industry and Commerce Ltd. Hong Kong. After graduating in economics in Freiburg, he started working for a German consultancy in Hong Kong in 1986 before joining the Germany Industry and Commerce Ltd. Hong Kong in 1991. The focus of his activities is to provide German middle-sized firms with consultation on diverse interests in the engagements of the Asian economy. His scope of work includes working occasionally in Vietnam as well.
