The Beloved of the Dawn

Franz Fühmann

Four stories about heroes of Greek mythology: Tithonus is the titular beloved of the dawn, who is given eternal life, but not eternal youth as hoped. In “The Net of Hephaistos” the limping blacksmith seeks revenge and wants to destroy the gods of Olympus. Two other stories deal with the marriage of Hera and Zeus, the father of the gods, and with Marsyas, who competes with Apollo, the god of light.
