The Fire Above, the Mountain Below

Reinhard Jirgl

October 2012. The historian Theresa disappears in Berlin. She had access to the secret archives of the erstwhile East Germany (GDR). The investigation that follows leads promptly into the past – to dark events and to a company involved in East-West trade. The "Wende" (Fall of the Berlin Wall) did not change everything. Many old structures and systems, once thought to have been overcome, continue to survive.
