Alois Hotschnig studied medicine, German and English in Innsbruck. He received the State Sponsorship Prize of Kärnten for his first short story, "Aus" (i.e. Out), which was published in 1989. This was followed by further awards. As well as short stories, Alois Hotschnig also writes poetry, plays and radio plays. His works include for instance the radio play "Augenschnitt" (i.e. Ocular Incision;1991), the novel "Leonardos Hände" (Leonardo's Hands; 1992) and the drama "Absolution", which was premiered in Vienna in 1994. Alois Hotschnig lives in Innsbruck.
