Naseem Shafaie
In Shafaei's poem, she speaks about the tumultuous atmosphere in Kashmir through the plight of her protagonist. In a heartbreaking line she says, 'Don't write me letters, for the address on the envelope no longer belongs to me'. We often think of the environment in Kashmir as tragic yet so far away. In this series, I used images from one of my visits to Golibar, Mumbai right after a violent demolition drive that had destroyed more than 50 houses. Golibar occupies prime land in Bombay and has been facing forced demolitions after the developer forged consent from the residents. Since the demolitions began more than 10,000 people have been displaced from their homes and only a few hundred have been rehabilitated.
