Susanna Curtis' inclusive dance project at the KIADA Festival 2024

Making culture and performing arts accessible and barrier-free for everyone is one of the major challenges of our time. The Korea International Accessible Dance Festival (KIADA) in Seoul has been dedicated to this task for years and will present the performance "Exploring Borders-Moving On" by Susanna Curtis and her mixed-abled ensemble as part of its ninth edition.

The ensemble brings together dancers, acrobats, and actors with diverse backgrounds and abilities, which is also reflected in the performance as they explore the limits of human movement. The performers embody a range of motions, from animalistic to human, while questioning the physical, psychological, geographical, social, and political barriers they encounter in their lives. The performance aims to highlight which barriers they have managed to overcome and which ones remain unconquered.

Susanna Curtis, originally from Glasgow and currently residing in Nuremberg for 30 years, is a dancer and choreographer focusing on dance theatre and comedic elements. In 2000, she founded the group Curtis & Co. Dance Affairs, undertaking numerous projects. In 2021, she expanded her horizons with the inclusive dance project EveryBody, which has since performed internationally and hosts a festival of the same name in Nuremberg.

"Exploring Borders-Moving On" will be showcased in the Main Hall of the ARKO Arts Theater as the closing performance for the KIADA2024. The festival is scheduled from August 11th to 18th, 2024.

The KIADA Festival is the first international inclusive dance festival in Korea. Since 2016, it has fostered cross-border collaborations among dancers and performers with and without disabilities. This year's theme is "Art and Technology".
