About the Internship at Goethe-Institut Myanmar:
The Goethe-Institut e.V. is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global presence. We facilitate international cultural exchange, promote access to the German language and support the unimpeded development of culture and science.This dual internship offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in both the Library and Communications departments at the Goethe-Institut in Yangon, with interns alternating between the two departments on different days of the week. Interns will engage in library operations, customer communication, event planning, digital content creation, and community outreach. They will be able to develop hands-on skills in managing library resources, interacting with partners, and producing engaging content for various platforms (from the social media to the monthly newsletter). Additionally, interns will play a key role in enhancing the library's public image by also assisting in communication strategies and outreach programs. This position is ideal for students or graduates interested in libraries, media, and public engagement, providing a comprehensive learning experience across multiple domains and departments in a teamwork driven and professional environment with its core focus on arts, culture, educational and language services.
Key Responsibilities
Library Department
- Assist with circulation and daily library operations.
- Process new library materials, including shelving, cataloging, and organizing.
- Assist users with locating materials, using library resources, and answering inquiries.
- Assist with program coordination and events of the library in cooperation with other departments, including setup and support.
- Help curate thematic book displays and reading lists.
- Provide general administrative tasks and clerical support.
Communications Department
- Demonstrate strong translation (Myanmar to English language and vice versa), writing, and editing skills with keen attention to detail.
- Apply knowledge of digital marketing strategies and tools.
- Utilize graphic design skills (experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools is a plus).
- Edit videos for reels and promotional content.
- Engage with audiences and manage community interactions on social media.
- Maintain documentation, archiving, and research records.
- Assist with additional communication tasks, including the creation of promotional materials.
Required Qualifications
- Genuine enthusiasm for cultural and educational services.
- Friendly, customer-oriented behavior, good communication, as well as multitasking & teamwork skills.
- Interest in literature, libraries, culture, language learning, media, and public engagement.
- Strong communication skills in English (German language proficiency is not required).
- Proficiency in computer literacy, digital and social media marketing, social media management, and content creation tools.
