A friend request
Flying pencil case

How can students nowadays look for friends who are also learning German? In the region of Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, this was done by traditional mail at the beginning of the year.

The Project

This project is aimed at PASCH schools from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam that are supported by the Goethe-Institut.

The focus was on the exchange between German learners in different countries. This exchange took place with the help of a pencil case. Before this pencil case was flown to another country as a friendship request, it was designed for the recipients and equipped with an exchange message. The results turned out beautifully and were the beginning of great intercultural PASCH friendships.

The task

Design the pencil case with explanatory postcard for another German learner in another country in the Southeast Asia/Australia/New Zealand region.

To do this, think about:

  • What do you want to represent on the pencil case?
  • What is typical for your country? Which plants? Which animals? Which people? Which buildings? Which food? Which drinks? Which messages?
  • How do you want to represent it: draw, paint, sew, knit, glue, print, dye, stamp - everything is possible!
Have fun designing your pencil case!

To make sure that your drawn messages are even better understood and that the recipient of your pencil case knows who you are and why you designed it that way, include a postcard.
