AFAR TALK - Textile Art: Crafting a Path to Inclusion and Equality

We invite you to participate in a discussion about the role of textile art today, starting with the presentation of an advocacy paper by researcher Prof.dr. Nicole Colin, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 19:00, at the Goethe-Institut Bucharest, Goethe Pavilion.
The event adresses everyone interested in textile art, as well as researchers, practicing artists, curators and other professionals.

Nicole Colin is Professor of German culture at Aix-Marseille University (AMU), Director of the German-French graduate school "Conflicts of cultures – cultures of conflicts" (AMU / University of Tübingen) and an honorary professor at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). She works on German cultural history (with a focus on literature and theatre), the theory of cultural transfer, cultural exchange between France and Germany, cultural heritage and the sociology of cultural fields.

Nicole Colin discusses the potential of textile art to serve as a medium for the development and promotion of inclusion and sustainability practices in contemporary society, the work "Textile Art as a Medium of Inclusion and Sustainability" being inspired by the revitalization of textile art, increasingly present in contemporary art representations and the main topic of the AFAR artist-in-residence program.

After the presentation, the evening continues with a round table with the participation of cultural workers in the field of textile art - Aurora Kiraly, Anca Poterașu, Megan Dominescu - UNARTE professor Lector univ. dr. Otilia Boeru and is moderated by Joachim Umlauf, director of the Goethe-Institut Bucharest.

Artists for Artists Residency Network (AFAR) is an EU co-funded project and residency program, aiming to improve the mobility of contemporary visual artists and curators in Romania, Germany, Croatia, and Austria. The project is led by the Romanian Association for Contemporary Art (ARAC) with its three consortium partners – Goethe Institute Network, Croatian Association of Fine Artists, and Künstlerhaus Vienna.
