A video competition for students on the occasion of 160 years of German-Thai relations
Bridges between our countries

What can Thais learn from Germans? And vice versa: What can Germans learn from Thais? We have awarded prizes to five amusing and insightful video entries from our competition.

2022 is an important anniversary year for Germany and Thailand: diplomatic relations between our two countries have existed for 160 years.

That is a good reason to celebrate! But also a good reason to reflect on how we can continue to learn from and with each other. That's why we invited all students at Thai universities to participate in the "Brücken zwischen unseren Ländern or Bridges between our countries" video competition. We wanted to know from them: What can Thais learn from Germans? And vice versa: What can Germans learn from Thais?

All students who were enrolled at a Thai university at the time of the competition were eligible to participate. A jury awarded prizes to three videos, and the community was also able to award its audience prize via YouTube.

The result is as amusing as it is revealing: In amusing role plays with visual and sound effects, we learn about the curiosity of Germans and their urge to question things. We learn about how "sacred" their rest time is to them, about clear traffic rules and waste separation. From the Thais, on the other hand, we can learn to relax over delicious food, to always be friendly and helpful. We learn about the "face-saving smile" and the "polite negation". And if that's not enough, we'll also learn about the advantages and disadvantages of toilet paper.
