Consumption and responsibility

What does responsibility and sustainability in food mean to you? The contestants from our videoclip competition “Consumption and responsibility” have shared their ideas and wishes with us. Take a look at the videos of the winners Praiya Leewanun and Taratip Suthaphun in which they present how to deal with the Verpackungsmüll bei Lebensmitteln and what we can do to encourage the responsible consumption.

What is your favorite way to eat out?

Many people in Thailand have small flats, especially in the city. Cooking can be really complicated. It's much easier to buy delicious street food directly on the road - for example, in cookshops. Fancy strawberries? Just call and a few minutes later a delivery service will bring you this scrumptious fruit to your door. The range is large and inexpensive. What's always available and cheap loses its value and ends up in the dustbin more easily without a guilty conscience. Especially in Asian food culture, people like to order too much in a restaurant in order to share it generously with their guests. And do you know what it's like? In the supermarket, every item you buy is packed in an extra bag - so that everything stays clean and hygienic.

But have you ever thought about how environmentally friendly this way of eating is? For example, what happens to leftovers that are hard to reheat a second time? How far have the strawberries travelled before they end up on your plate? And do you have to buy them all year round? Few people think about where food comes from and whether the animals we eat are kept in a species-appropriate way. Over-packaging, food waste and non-local food are real climate pests!

Let's take more responsibility for our health and our environment again! How can we do that? For example, by cooking at home more often. Not only can you save money, but you also learn how much work it takes to prepare food and how valuable it is. Or bring your own containers when you go to the cookshop. Sometimes you even get a discount! Our contestants have also suggested further alternatives for the environmentally friendly consumption. Excited to know what they are? Have a look here, what do responsibility and sustainability mean for them.
