The Oussoulna (Arabic for “our roots/our origins”) project builds on the successful Ta'ziz Cultural Academy Libya project and focuses on the preservation of Libya's tangible and intangible cultural heritage. By emphasizing cultural similarities and supporting civil society actors, it actively encourages the development of the Libyan civil society.
A notable example of the promotion and protection of cultural heritage in Libya is the Libyan Film Cultural Organization, an initiative supported by Oussoulna. Its aim is to build a comprehensive archive of Libyan cinema and promote collaboration between industry experts. In 2023, nine similar projects were selected for funding, which will be supported until the end of 2024.
Furthermore, training programs were offered to enable Libyan art and cultural actors to receive further skills in areas such as intangible cultural heritage, conflict mediation and project management. In addition, networking opportunities were provided for Libyan and Tunisian cultural practitioners to exchange experiences and knowledge, as well as networking to strengthen the Libyan cultural scene.
Oussoulna is a project of the Goethe-Institut, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
