 Synthetic Truth: A New Issue of Gegenüber Magazine on the AI Age

The second issue of the digital transatlantic magazine Gegenüber (www.goethe.de/gegenuber) is now online! Synthetic Truth: The Great AI Swindle (www.goethe.de/gegenuber/synthetictruth) is a collection of articles that incorporates perspectives from Canada, Mexico, Germany, and the United States on the topic of artificial intelligence and its impact on society.

 Gegenüber — The Digital Magazine of the Goethe-Institut in North America

In October, the Goethe-Institut in North America launched the transatlantic online magazine Gegenüber (www.goethe.de/gegenuber). Gegenüber connects perspectives from across (German: gegenüber) the Atlantic, in Germany and North America. Our editorial team and contributors from Canada, Mexico, Germany, and the United States offer balanced perspectives with multimedia pieces on societal issues, art, business, and science. Gegenüber tackles transatlantic topics, German-American quirks, and common denominators, offering a political interpretation of culture and a cultural interpretation of politics.

 Goethe-Institut Charts the Course for Comprehensive Transformation

On 28 September, the Goethe-Institut Head Office in Munich announced a global transformation package, which was developed in close cooperation with the German Foreign Office. The transformation responds to changing geo-political and financial circumstances. As part of this package, the Goethe-Institut Washington DC will close at the end of 2026. By allocating resources more efficiently, this decision will enable us to strengthen our close cooperation with partners across the country in both education and culture. From 2027 onward, we will remain present via our branches in Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles as well as via our numerous network partners in the US. We especially look forward to a stronger and more visible presence in Texas and the Midwest.

 Goethe-Institut Shows Solidarity With Ukraine

The Goethe Institute reacts with great dismay to the Russian attack on Ukraine. Secretary General Johannes Ebert said: "We are shocked by the current situation in Ukraine. Our thoughts are with our colleagues and partners in the country and with their families. While economic sanctions against Russia are now essential, we believe civil society exchange and engagement is now more important than ever.”
