“Illusion” - Kira Linn’s Linntet Southeast Asia Tour 2023

DCINE Cinemas (Ho Chi Minh City)

From 14.05 until 26.05 Kira Linn – a German baritone saxophonist – and her band Linntett will have a tour around 4 Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. In Ho Chi Minh City, there will be a unique concert at Ben Thanh Teahouse on 17.05.2023 at 19:30, introducing to jazz lovers, in particular, and music lovers, in general, the musical personality of the young female artist, who has now released 3 albums. In her first Asian tour, Kira Linn will perform saxophone baritone with Nino Wenger (saxophone alto, flute), Freek Mulder (electric bass), Johannes Koch (drums).

Illusion, a new album released in early April, reflects Linn's emotional states and reflections emerging from solitude, silence, uncertainty in the midst of a pandemic. It was a period when she learned to slow down, querying core concepts (anger, despair, diversity, and freedom) while experimenting with new things not only in her thinking but also in her songwriting. The cover of the Illusion disc has a glimpse of sadness in blue, but still does not lose hope in the green light that surrounds Kira Linn gracefully in the center. Kira Linn was among the artists selected for Whirlwind Recordings' one-year program supporting emerging female talent called Step Forward, Reach Back.

The album also marked Linn's first vocal contribution to jazz compositions in neo-soul and electronic colors (such as the 8-bit electronic synth sound in two inversely parallel compositions Numb_ers and Dumb_ness), indie and pop. The song Rage expresses the anger of freedom being taken away, through solos that seem to rush out of this very mystery; We also encounter the emotional twists in Women to Sky, arguably the most important work ever written, as if to capture the unpredictable, claustrophobic feeling of injustice suffered by women. The single That Thing in Illusion is like a quest for something that is suddenly lost: the enthusiasm, the sparkle in the bottom of the eyes, the suddenness of creativity.
The famous jazz artist Jorge Rossy, who featured on Kira Linn's second album, said about Kira Linn: "She was a talented baritone saxophonist. She deeply explores the language of jazz in her compositions, while forming a deeply personal musical identity."
