Rosemarie Trockel, one of the world's leading conceptual artists, is renowned for her works that critically examine gender stereotypes in art and society. She is the first female artist to represent Germany at the Venice Biennale, the world's most prestigious art festival. This exhibition will feature more than 60 of Trockel’s works, from paintings, textiles, photographs, videos to installations, illustrating her creative journey spanning more than four decades. This is also the first time Rosemarie Trockel has appeared in Southeast Asia as part of a series of traveling exhibitions organized by the German Institute for Foreign Relations (ifa), with previous stops in 42 major cities in the US, Russia, Europe, Latin America, and in Asia such as Seoul and Shanghai.
Along with that, Lai Dieu Ha—one of Vietnam’s pioneering performance artists—will introduce her latest works. Ha has become famous for her performances using her own body as an artistic tool, creating images that are both powerful and poetic. She is also the first female Vietnamese artist to sell her performance works in video form and has achieved many international recognitions. This exhibition will feature four works by Lai Dieu Ha, including paintings and soft sculptures, representing four periods in her nearly 20-year career.
The exhibition of Rosemarie Trockel and Lai Dieu Ha is not only an opportunity to honor two outstanding female voices, but also an opportunity for the audience to see the intersection and interaction between German and Vietnamese cultures in intercultural cooperations. The works will bring many meaningful inspiration and inviting viewers to reflect on art, society, and global issues.
Curator: Gudrun Inboden, art historian and museum curator.
