The Skilled Workers’ Immigration Law has created a legal foundation for people from all over the world to come to Germany as skilled workers or to train to receive a skilled worker certification. Especially in the sector of carework (including nursing and elderly care), Germany is faced with a severe lack of workers. Many young Vietnamese people have come to Germany in the last decade to work in the healthcare sector in Germany; and many more are currently preparing to embark on this journey.
So, the dedicated individuals working tirelessly day and night within Germany’s healthcare and care system to ensure all people in need are well cared for, recover, or can die with dignity - who are they?
The documentary film “Who cares?” shines a light on the daily efforts of doctors, midwives, and nurses as they strive to provide compassionate care from birth to death. Despite the strict financial constraints and schedules imposed by the system, they go above and beyond their limit to ensure that humanity, closeness, and warmth are not lost.
With this event, the Goethe-Institut Hanoi and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung want to provide the audience an honest look into the realities of work in the German care sector. The audience will have the chance to discuss their thoughts and questions with one of the directors of the film “Who cares?”, Mr. Stephan Witthöft. Furthermore, Ms. Nguyen Thi Sen, who has been working in Germany as a nurse since 2013, will be sharing her experiences. This discussion session was moderated by Dr. Tran Thi Minh, who is working in the field of training to prepare Vietnamese people to go to Germany for vocational training.
