Science Film Festival

The Science Film Festival is a celebration of science communication in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. In cooperation with local partners, it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films with accompanying educational activities.

Invitation to Bid – Science Film Festival

The Goethe-Institut Johannesburg is looking for one or more partners (delivery partners and cooperation partners) to plan and implement the Science Film Festival in South Africa. It can be different partners for different locations, e.g. Johannesburg, Cape Town, rural areas etc.

The Science Film Festival

The Science Film Festival is a celebration of science communication in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. In cooperation with local partners, it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films with accompanying educational activities.

The event has grown considerably since its first edition in 2005, becoming the largest event of its kind worldwide reaching over half a million on-site viewers annually.

The Science Film Festival runs internationally in 30 countries from October 1 to December 20 every year with varying dates between participating countries.

2024: Net Zero and the Circular Economy

In 2024, the Science Film Festival endeavours to spotlight films from around the world highlighting the crucial role played by net zero concepts and the circular economy in combatting the challenges posed by the climate crises.

Participating Countries in the Region

This year the participating countries of the region are Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Mali, South Africa, Tanzania and Togo.
