Family Matters - Burkina Faso

Families from Burkina Faso share their stories of migration, fatherhood, religion and the bond of blood. A person’s bond to another by descent is the centre of life and the structure of a family, as the rest of life, is defined by a family’s belief system.

The Sama Family

Born in Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Sama returned to Burkina Faso to settle down with his family in 2018. The family has been united by the bond of marriage since December 12, 2009. This was followed by the birth of their first son in 2010, the second in 2012, and the third in 2017. Mr. Sama was born a Muslim, converted to Christianity in 1992, and is now a pastor.

The Bonkoungou Family

Mr. Bonkoungou Saiba, comes from a family of the “Moaga” ethnic group, and founded a family with Justine (Oussalibou) of the “Gourounsi” ethnic group. In this family, cultural intermingling finds its full meaning insofar as the couple manages to take this diversity into account in their daily life.

The Kambou Family

According to Mr. Kambou Koudjora Gabriel (35 years old), Freelance Journalist, being is nothing without family. For him, the family is constituted by the blood bond, but also by the clan bond. Mr. Kambou explains the genealogy of their family.
