THE BOOK
How do I know who I am if I don't understand where I come from?
What does Heimat mean to me and my family?
Do we still carry a piece of German guilt today?
Author and illustrator Nora Krug asks herself these questions in her family album Heimat. In order to better understand herself and her family history, she undertakes a journey into the past: she researches in archives and libraries, goes to flea markets, establishes contact with relatives and interviews contemporary witnesses.
The German edition of the book was published by Penguin Publishing Press in 2018. The Italian edition is published by Einaudi Stile Libero Extra in 2019.
THE EXHIBITION
The German Educational Liaison of the Goethe-Institut Italy provides schools, libraries, and cultural associations in Italy with a bilingual exhibition on the book that can be used in German classes or in an interdisciplinary project as part of Holocaust Remembrance Day.
