Aylin is German-Turkish. She lives with her father and brother in a northern German port city. Her mother is dead, so Aylin takes care of the household and her brother. At school she is bullied until she beats up her opponent Jacqueline. She is sentenced to do community service at a horse farm. Aylin is fascinated by the Icelandic horse Hördur, and through her affection for Hördur, Aylin becomes someone else. She makes an effort and wins the sympathy of Iris, the owner of the horse farm, who, after much pleading, teaches her to ride. Aylin proves to be a natural. When she wants to train with Hördur for a competition, her father says no. Turkish women don't ride!
