Simurgh Centre in Neu-Delhi

Kunsthaus ACUD

The exhibition "The Incredible Child" shows drawings and paintings by children. These are the results of a monthly workshop series for children aged 9-15 years, held in the Simurgh Centre studio. Each workshop consists of a film screening followed by a discussion and art activity. In the discussions, the children reflect on their ideas about the respective films, which come from different countries and were shot in different styles. Afterwards, the children are encouraged to express their ideas in texts, drawings or collages.

The work with the children at the Simurgh Centre is guided by the approach that the process of engaging with art - through seeing, hearing, feeling - provides spiritual nourishment even in the most difficult circumstances. Every life needs space for play and beauty, and making this possible for children must be the responsibility of adults in society.

Simurgh Centre in New Delhi

The mythical bird Simurgh appears in stories and legends in both India and Afghanistan, symbolising search, renewal, creativity and connection. The Simurgh Centre brings these ideas to projects in New Delhi and is a space for creative projects, cultural work and collaborations. It supports artistic exchange and collaboration between Afghan, Indian and German cultural practitioners. The project primarily supports Afghans living in Delhi and connects to audiences and discourse around the world.
