“Hakki” — Stories along the way

The Hakki-Workshop, organized by the Goethe-Institut in Exile and Sudan Club e. V. Berlin, offers members of the Sudanese diaspora a platform to share their personal journeys through film, exploring themes of displacement, identity, and resilience. Participants will develop narrative scenes during the workshop, which will then be filmed by a professional filmmaker in an interview format and presented at a public event in early autumn 2025.

Workshop Team

Ibrahim Izzeldeen (aka Ibrahim Algrefawi) is a German Sudanese filmmaker, blogger, digital journalist and social worker He has a bachelor's degree in environmental science and extensive experience in media and journalism with a focus on art and culture. His contributions have appeared in local and international, print and digital media such as The Guardian, Brown Book and in African argument networks. He has written and directed three successful documentaries in Sudan: JOSEPHINA (2011), produced by the Goethe Institute Sudan, ALTERNATIVE SPACES (2016), produced by the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) and MIRRORS OF FEAR, produced by the Doha Film Institute. The three films deal with various cultural, social and political issues. In the last two years he has been working on migration, asylum stories from an individual and artistic perspective and made some experimental videos on these topics.
Hassan Zaroug is a filmmaker, writer, and producer with a passion for telling impactful stories that resonate deeply with audiences. With over a decade of experience in the film and media industry, Hassan has crafted a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from political satire and socio-political documentaries to creative advertising campaigns. As the co-founder and Head of Creative Development at Compass Creative Productions, Hassan has spearheaded numerous projects, including Conference 27, a critically acclaimed web series, and Chants, a documentary capturing the spirit of the Sudanese revolution. Known for his innovative approach and dedication to excellence, Hassan combines his technical expertise with a deep understanding of storytelling to create meaningful and thought-provoking content.
Sahar Salah Abedelazeem is an actor in public work, as well as the field of culture and arts in Sudan. She is a media professional and digital content creator, an activist and researcher interested in women’s and environmental issues, climate change and its impact on people and their cultural heritage. Sahar is experienced in managing cultural projects at both local and international levels, having implemented a variety of cultural and artistic projects across different parts of Sudan and the African continent, such as the Harakat project for contemporary African dance.
Till 2023 she worked as the cultural programme coordinator at the Goethe-Institut Sudan. She is currently curating the Sudan focus at the Goethe-Institut in Exile in Berlin.
