The Science Film Festival bestows six awards chosen by an international jury. They are complimented with a cash prize of
500 Euro each. The Prize of the Jury is complimented with a cash prize of 1,000 Euro.

Jury 2024

Over 30 international experts in science education and science communication in participating countries are involved in the selection process of the Science Film Festival. An international jury of experts in educational media, science communication and the annual thematic focus, subsequently elect the winners of the six award categories.

Marie Laurentine Bayala

BURKINA FASO


Marie Laurentine Bayala is a filmmaker from Burkina Faso who directed numerous films. She studied communication and journalism at the University of Ouagadougou and received her master’s in documentary filmmaking from Gaston Berger University in Senegal. In 2016, Laurentine was selected as a Hubert Humphrey Fellow, part of the Fulbright scholarship. This program offers mid-career professionals, a chance to study and get work training in the United States. Then, she improved her skills in filmmaking, producing film, journalism and entrepreneurship. In 2017, Laurentine Bayala was selected to be part of the Berlinale Talent in Germany and the Durban Talent in South Africa.

Pogy Kurniawan

INDONESIA

Pogy Kurniawan, President of Alliance Française de Medan in North Sumatra, Indonesia, holds a Master of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from The University of British Columbia. With extensive experience in leadership, engineering, and cross-cultural engagement, she has developed skills in management, strategic planning, and community outreach across various sectors. In 2012, Pogy discovered the Science Film Festival and was inspired to bring it to as many students as possible in North Sumatra, a mission she continues to this day. Through the Science Film Festival, she shares her passion for science, emphasizing that “science is about how our lives work and interact, not just calculations or formulas”.

Patarapol Tularak

THAILAND


Patarapol Tularak is the Secretary General of the Solid Waste Management Association of Thailand and Managing Director of Circular and Sustainable Solutions Co., Ltd. With over 25 years of experience in the environment and energy sectors, he has worked across government, private, and non-profit sectors. He initiated a green public procurement scheme, introduced a hazardous waste management program, and played a key role in drafting Thailand's first EPR law for electronic waste. In addition to serving as the Secretary General of the Solid Waste Management Association of Thailand, he has been appointed a member of several national and local committees on sustainability.

Anek Swasdiyodom

THAILAND


Anek Swasdiyodom was a senior producer at Thai PBS from 2008 to 2020, where he led the Communications Production Team within the Communication & Partnership Department. With nearly 20 years of experience in production, Anek produced the weekly program "Talk to Films", which showcased alternative short films and features interviews with directors and industry experts. He has also co-produced several children's drama series in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). His work has garnered significant recognition, including First Prize in the Professionals Category at the Southeast Asia Video for Children Festival in 2017 and 2018.

Amol Bhagat

INDIA

Amol Bhagat is an Indian filmmaker born into a farming family in Baramati, Maharashtra. Originally trained as an electronics and telecommunications engineer, he transitioned to the Indian film industry, where he has worked for the past decade, primarily in film marketing. He is also recognized as one of Bollywood’s youngest writer-directors. His directorial debut, "Pune to Goa", marked his entry into the industry. In addition to his filmmaking career, Amol has served as a jury member at several international film festivals, contributing his expertise to the global cinematic community.
