Our core competences

German proficiency and good preparation for migration are key to ensure that immigrants experience a successful and sustainable integration. The Goethe-Institut offers a diverse programme of learning and information programmes available to people in all relevant countries in terms of skilled worker migration. In cooperation with the twelve locations in Germany, the worldwide network enables skilled workers to be supported throughout the process of migration and integration.

The Goethe-Institut supports the German government’s Fachkräftestrategie der Bundesregierung (strategy for securing the supply of skilled workers). In our commitment to migration of skilled workers from abroad, we believe it’s very important to create a strong network involving relevant actors at home and abroad. We contribute our specialist expertise in high-level committees and work in close consultation with partners such as the German Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit), the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Deutsche Industrie- und Handelskammer; DIHK), the Chambers of Industry and Commerce Abroad (Auslandshandelskammern; AHKs), and the Employers’ Association for the Care Sector (Arbeitgeberverband Pflege; AGVP).

Projects

Fit for the German employment market

This project allows skilled workers hoping to migrate to Germany and potential apprenticeship candidates from Brazil, Columbia and Mexico to receive preparatory language training free of charge in their country of origin. This project is a cooperative venture with the Federal Employment Agency.

Mexico: training partnerships in Latin America (APAL)

The Goethe-Institut Mexico, working hand-in-hand with the Federal Employment Agency as well as university hospitals and clinics in various German cities, provides an opportunity to participate in the APAL programme.

Vietnam: coming to Germany as a healthcare worker (Vivantes Project)

The Goethe-Institut Vietnam offers tailored language courses with specialist language elements for those hoping to take up a position in the care sector. The project is a cooperative venture involving the Vivantes care group and the Vietnamese Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs.
