Vocational training partnerships with schools in Latin America

Many young people from Central and South America learn German as a foreign language at PASCH schools or schools supported by the Goethe-Institut as part of educational cooperation. Interest in career prospects in Germany is growing, and the demand for training in the health sector plays a special role here.

Together with the “Bundesagentur für Arbeit” (Federal Employment Agency), the Goethe-Institut has been preparing students and alumni for vocational training in Germany in terms of language and intercultural skills since 2019, supporting them in the selection and preparation process and accompanying them throughout the entire process until they start their training in Germany.

The APAL program includes the following steps:

  • Application for the program
  • Language acquisition at the Goethe-Institut up to level B2 in the home country or B1 in the home country and B2 in Germany
  • Organizational advice and support with registration for the visa process and document management
  • Cooperation with the “Bundesagentur für Arbeit” Federal Employment Agency: priority treatment, recognition of school certificates and labor market permits, individual regular agreements
  • Departure to Germany
  • Language acquisition in Germany up to level B2 (if not acquired in home country)
  • Start of training

Goal of the program:

  • Open up long-term career prospects for students and alumni with German as a foreign language (GFL)
  • Increase the relevance of German as a foreign language
  • Inform students, alumni and educational institutions about vocational training and career opportunities in Germany
  • Inform about legal, fair and sustainable labor migration
  • Prepare and support project participants linguistically and interculturally for everyday and working life in Germany
  • Use the services of the „Pre-integration and transition management“ project
  • Use the services of the „Fit for the German labor market“ project
