About the game

In the "Playing Kafka" video game, you can immerse yourself virtually in the mysterious world of Kafka's novels. Through engaging dialogues with characters and interactive puzzles, players embark on a Kafkaesque journey.

What choices would you make if you were Josef K.? Each choice affects the course of the game and the story. Playing Kafka encourages players to actively engage in the narrative and opens space for individual reflection on Kafka's work in the context of today's world.

Playing Kafka is an excellent educational video game that introduces students to the work and life of Franz Kafka in a creative way. There is also extensive accompanying teaching material.

The first module of the game is based on Kafka's novel The Trial, while other modules are inspired by Kafka's Letter to His Father and The Castle. The complete game is available free of charge in Czech, German and English for use on mobile devices (iOS, Android) and for PC (Windows, Mac OS).

Playing Kafka was developed by the Goethe-Institut together with the independent game studio, Charles Games. The project was supported by the National Recovery Plan of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, funded by the European Union.
