It is 1968 and the German-Romanian Reinholtz family, consisting of father Reinholtz and his two sons, who could not be more different, have packed their little yellow car and are on their way to the GDR. Here they hope to get the saving operation for their sick father. Before they get that far, however, Soviet tanks throw a wrench in their plans. The border to Czechoslovakia is sealed and the Prague Spring is nipped in the bud. The Reinholtz family is stuck, the way to the GDR is blocked and the way back to Romania is also blocked.
Then the unbelievable happens, thanks to the intervention of the Romanian ambassador, the family receives a visa to West Germany, where, however, a culture shock awaits the family... The Journey with Father is a tragicomic tale with a fast pace and jazzy soundtrack, from a time when the Iron Curtain separated East and West - and entire families.
