Phenomenon «Bidialectalism»
Languages are distinguished by their variations of dialects. Some people have lived in different places, which enables them to speak various dialects of the same language in their daily lives. This widely spread phenomenon is known as «Bidialectalism». I live in Upper Egypt where I meet a lot of people who choose to switch between their local original dialect, Sa’aidi dialect, and Cairo dialect. In this article, I discuss the social advantages and disadvantages of this phenomenon, as well as its impacts on the speaker. Psycholinguists have researched the «Code-switching» impacts on bilingual or multi-lingual brains and how their executive functions are affected. Research and experiments include the «Code-switching» impacts on bi-dialectals who may enjoy similar cognitive characteristics.
