Book presentation and discussion "Franz Kafka. Die Zeichnungen“
Invited by the Swiss Embassy, Andreas Kilcher will present his book "Franz Kafka. Die Zeichnung" as part of the Kafka Year 2024 on 25.03 in a digital lecture at the Goethe-Institut.
Franz Kafka not only wrote prose, he was also passionate about drawing. The drawings are independent works, not direct illustrations of his texts, but they were created in the same spirit. It was only in 2019 that over a hundred drawings by Franz Kafka, which had been kept under lock and key in a Zurich bank safe for decades, emerged: a sensation. Until then, only a few drawings by the world-famous writer were known. They are pictures of almost irresistible appeal. Kafka's artistic ambitions and his extraordinary talent can only be appreciated with these new finds.
These drawings were scientifically analyzed by Andreas Kilcher, a literary and cultural scholar who teaches in Zurich, and published for the first time, together with the already known sheets, in 2022 in the book "Franz Kafka. Die Zeichnungen" in 2022.
