Birgit Vanderbeke

Birgit Vanderbeke studied Law, German and Romance Studies in Frankfurt am Main. In 1990 she won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize for a text excerpt from her first novel, The Mussel Feast, published in the same year. In addition to other awards for her work, she was awarded the Brothers Grimm Professorship at the University of Kassel in 2007. Birgit Vanderbeke lived in the south of France from 1993 until her death in 2021.
