To mark the centenary of Franz Kafka's death, tribute will be paid to him in London with a series of events, performances, exhibitions, workshops, literary meetings and screenings.
Discover Kafka's life and work written and drawn by Nicolas Mahler at an exhibition which will be hosted at the Goethe-Institut London from September - November 2024. A fun quiz that guides younger visitors and school groups through the exhibition is also available.
From A2 up to C1: The Goethe-Institut offers teachers and learners materials to go along with the poster exhibition (Preview, PDF) which presents the most important protagonists in Kafka's work and life in an easy-to-understand and accessible manner. All material is strictly copyrighted and may only be used in the classroom.
In collaboration with international partners, the Goethe-Institut presents a cultural and editorial anniversary programme for Kafka enthusiasts worldwide.
International authors discuss the following questions: Why is Franz Kafka's magic unbroken one hundred years after his death? Why do we still find Kafka so modern and relevant? Readers are invited to explore Kafka's favourite places in Prague, cook Kafka's favourite dishes, follow Kafka to the countryside and to the cinema, on TikTok and in comic format. International Kafka enthusiasts discuss their favourite author in the accompanying podcast.
KAFKA2024 is a year-round festival with exhibitions, concerts, discussions, theatre, films, readings and lectures that celebrates the literary icon, thinker, pessimist and humourist Franz Kafka in Europe and beyond.
