Goethe-Institut Glasgow

To celebrate the anniversaries of the Goethe-Institut Glasgow and Alliance Française Glasgow, we’re thrilled to have commissioned new work from some of the most exciting poets writing in Scotland, France and Germany.

Each poet involved suggested a favourite idiom or proverb from their own language, and then wrote a poem responding to a turn of phrase suggested by another writer. As you explore our building and gardens, take this opportunity to explore original writing in English, German, French, Gaelic and Occitan, and to marvel at the weird and wonderful images present in our languages – from wooden tongues to missing heads.

The poets involved are:

Aurelia Lassaque, Ariel Spiegler and Yetka from France;

Özlem Özgül Dündar, Odile Kennel and Felix Schiller from Germany;

Ken Cockburn, Marjorie Lotfi, Niall O’Gallagher and JL Williams from Scotland.
